Department of Industries Development was established in 01.09.2004 and combined with two departments which were Handloom and Small Industries under the Minister of Social
Welfare, Probation, Child care and Small Industries & Rural Development in the Sabragamuwa province and the head office is situated at Kegalle district and sub office
is at at Ratnapura.
The main activities are sales and production, conducting training programmes for school dropouts and launching productivity programmes. There are 66 handloom production
centers, 07 sales outlets, 14 wood training centers, 03 light engineering centers, 01 “JUKI” machine & training centers, 01 white fiber production center and 02
leather products training centers at the Department of Industries Development in the Sabaramuwa Province.
As a result of process development, the Department of Industries Development won the provincial and national level productivity awards on last year and inter
institutes productivity programmes are launching annually in each institute and also year 2010 has been named as “sales promotion year”.
