This place is located in Kalawa by the side of Kalawana Weddagala main Road with full of natural beauty. It is about 60 km away form Ratnapura town and 08 km away from Kalawana town. According to the legend; this was built by a man named Samarappulige Kira, lived in this area, one hundred years ago. He was known as a “Govi Raja” (King of Farmers) by the villagers. The legend reveals that, this miracle was done by him without using any iron made tools or equipments. He has spent more than 25 years to finish this work. He has begun the works in1840s and he has finished the works in 1874 A.D. It is said that “Kitul Hula” (Sharpen stick) had been used for excavating soil and “Kolapatha” (Taken from Beetle nut tree) had been used for removing soil by him when he built this small lake. According to the legend, he has cultivated the 25 acre land using very advanced irrigating system by utilizing water of this lake.
